To understand attention loss, you simply need to understand the five different types of attention and how to increase the audience’s attention span after your business has captured their attention.

 

Attention span is controlled by chemicals produced in the brain while processing sensory information. In their simplest forms, sensory information can be created by sight, audio, smell, touch and taste.

 

These five senses correlate and can be associated with relevant types of attention.

 

Meaning if you like the flavor, you will give it more attention by stuffing more of it in your mouth, if you like a fragrance, you might continue to pursue its intoxicating source and so on.

 

When the sensory information produces a positive or pleasurable sensation, the chemical being produced in your brain is dopamine.

 

With dopamine production triggered, you are more likely to feel good than bad, therefore, more likely to want to continue whatever is creating the sensation.

 

This presents an opportunity to increase the time spent on the activity producing the pleasurable sensation because you don’t want it to stop. You naughty thing you.

 

The bad news is, in the online business world, the last three: smell, touch and taste, are of the least importance because it’s not currently possible transport smells textures and flavors across the internet.

 

The good news is: audio and visual content works very well on the internet. This is why video has become very popular because it contains both audio and visuals.

 

Why Video Is A Blessing And A Curse

Unfortunately video content itself is increasingly having a difficult time keeping the viewer’s attention.
